Things to avoid when playing with a 4 6 month old baby

When you have such a small baby at home, you might not be aware of which things in your household can pose a danger to their safety. So, we’ll list some situations to watch out for.

Babies at this age are very small and require constant supervision. They are in a phase where they put their hands and everything they hold into their mouths. Therefore, before playing, check the size of the toys to prevent choking hazards, and also watch out for items that can cause choking. When playing with crinkly bags or strings, which they love, never leave them in the baby’s hands “just while” you stir the lunch or “just while” you wipe that shelf…

This also applies to clothing. Avoid anything with beads, strings, or figurines. It is only important that the baby feels comfortable in the clothing, as they will start to crawl slowly from the fifth month, so they should move freely without restrictions.

You will now need to keep an eye on them constantly, as once they start moving, you won’t know where they might wander. Therefore, avoid leaving sharp objects around the house. Check the floors, corners, lower tables, everything within the baby’s reach, and put these items in drawers or on higher shelves where they cannot reach.

A situation many parents forget about is emptying their pockets when playing with the baby, as injuries can occur to both the baby and you. These could include keys, coins, or badges on a jacket or sweatshirt. Run through your clothing with your hands before approaching the baby.

We suggest lying on your stomach on the floor and positioning yourself like the baby – this way, you will see what might catch their attention and what they could reach. From our perspective, we often don’t notice items in lower places, so it’s not a bad idea to “get down to earth”.
