What you should expect from a 4 month old baby

Even though you didn’t believe that this time would come, your baby should now be sleeping well at night, without waking up for feedings, while daytime naps are still necessary. If you haven’t already done so, now is the right time to move the baby to their crib with a safety railing. This will give them more space for movements that are now becoming more pronounced.

If you’re wondering what your child is capable of doing at this stage, here’s what you need to know:

Facial expressions: Your child is able to recognize the faces of household members, especially yours. You will see this from the smile they give you whenever you approach. They can also recognize whether you are smiling or serious. If you are upset or angry, calm down first, then approach your child, who can easily sense your energy and mood.

Colors: The baby can now distinguish bright shades of colors such as orange and red. Bright colors will captivate your little one at this moment. Make sure to surround them with brightly colored objects so their eyes can get used to the variety of colors around them.

Rolling: All that crawling at this stage transitions into rolling. Your baby will spend a lot of time on their stomach, exploring their surroundings, shapes, colors, touch, and textures. Make sure that all dangerous objects are out of their reach and keep an eye on them.

Social milestones: Your baby’s babbling will improve as they learn new words and syllables. You might be dealing with a chatty little creature, and that’s a good thing. So, keep talking to your little one at every opportunity. Make sure to use adult language, as this will help them learn the correct names for the things around them. Baby talk isn’t forbidden but use it sparingly, for instance, during cuddle times.

Therefore, at four months old, your baby recognizes you, smiles at you, knows how to hold their head up, plays with their hands, and starts to make contact with the world around them. Meals are conducted at regular intervals, and their sleep pattern begins to form more consistently.
